Virus Warning - Don't let this happen to You!

There is a dangerous Virus being passed around electronically, orally, and by hand. This virus is called "Worm - Overload - Recreational - Killer" (WORK). Please note, if you receive WORK from any of your colleagues, your boss, or anyone else via any means, DO NOT TOUCH IT !! This Virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come into contact with WORK put your jacket on and take two good friends to the nearest grocery store. Purchase the antidote known as WORK - ISOLATING - NEUTRALIZER - EXTRACT (WINE) or BOTHERSOME - EMPLOYER - ELIMINATION - REBOOTER (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system. You should pass this warning on to 5 friends. If you do not have 5 friends, you have already been infected and WORK is controlling your life.

This has been reprinted with good intentions, fun and a sincere hope that all of you will enjoy this years 52nd Annual UMRA Education Conference hosted by our good friends from Bismarck, ND and the Badlands Chapter 11403.

Conferences and Seminars

  • RSES is proud to host the official unveiling of the newly created Commercial Refrigeration Contractor of the Year Award, which will be presented by Contracting Business magazine during the RSES Annual Awards Luncheon. The Awards Luncheon will take place as RSES celebrates its 70th Annual Conference, which will be hosted by the RSES San Antonio Chapter, Sept. 11-15, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk in San Antonio.

Nominations are currently being sought for the award, which recognizes commercial refrigeration contracting companies that represent the best the HVACR industry has to offer, and that embrace change and look for innovative ways to better understand and serve customers.

To submit a nomination, first contact the nominee and see if they agree to the criteria detailed on the Web site above. If so, then contact Contracting Business Editor-in-Chief Mike Weil by mail at 1300 East 9th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44114-1503, or by e-mail at mweil@penton.com and explain why you think your nomination deserves this award. In the correspondence, be sure to include the requirement for qualification information and any brochures or other supporting material available. Nominations must be submitted by March 23, 2007.

  • RSES has reserved a block of rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Riverwalk located on the tranquil north side of the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. Guest room rates are Single/Double/Triple/Quad $125 per night. There is a $50 fee for early departure.

Conference guests are required to either call the hotel directly or make reservations online. (Faxed or mailed room reservations will not be accepted.) To make reservations by phone call Central Reservations at 800-381-9553, or in-house reservations at 888-623-2800 and be sure to ask for the special rate for the RSES2007 (group code J05) room block at the Riverwalk.

To make reservations online please visit www.rses.org and select the Conference section. Once there, select Hotel & Transportation from the left navigation bar. Details on how to make reservations online are provided.

  • Automobile parking is available at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. If you require use of the hotel parking garage, please advise the hotel upon check-in that you are with Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and that you should receive the group-parking discount of $5.00 per day for self-parking and $18.00 per day for valet parking.

Education, Training and Testing

  • Beta testing for the NATE Gas Hydronics and Oil Hydronics Specialty examinations is now in process (available in both Service and Installation). Beta examinations are available at no charge and individuals participating in a beta exam can participate in another examination (either Core or Specialty) in the SAME exam session for no charge.

NATE does not publish this information (that the additional exam is free) so it could be a good opportunity for Chapters to run a promotion for NATE testing opportunities. As an example, a Chapter could offer the following: "Take a NATE Beta Exam for Gas or Oil Hydronics at no charge and take a Core or other Specialty exam for half the price!" (The Chapter could then charge approximately $50 for the exams to cover freight charges, proctor fees, etc.) For further information regarding the NATE beta exams contact NATE at 877-420-6283.

  • Replacement certification cards can be ordered quickly and securely on the RSES Web site. Go to www.rses.org; a link to RSES Section 608 EPA Certification card appears on the home page under Most Visited Areas. Individuals who wish to order cards and pay by check or money order may download and print a form they can submit with payment.

  • All examination orders for all events, including training course final exams, CM/CMS exams, EPA certification exams, etc., should be ordered a minimum of 10 business days in advance of the scheduled test date.

  • Did you know that Chapters can administer CM and CMS exams without having to meet the requirements of a 5 hour educational session prior to testing? Schedule a Chapter CM/CMS exam day and allow your members to earn their CM and CMS credentials! Applications to hold this event can be found on the RSES Web site. Click on Training and then on Proctor Information. Scroll down the page to find the PDF form titled, "CM/CMS Exam Day Request Form."

Marketing

  • The 2007-2008 RSES Catalog arrived at RSES Headquarters on March 1st. Within the next few weeks we plan to distribute a copy to all Chapter Officers, Deputy Directors, Regional Directors, Past Presidents and Corporate Members. Catalogs are available free of charge upon request. However, like other promotional materials, RSES reserves the right to limit the number of catalogs given to a Chapter for promotional activities.

Members may request a copy of the catalog by visiting www.rses.org, or by calling 800-297-5660 x4035, or by e-mailing cbercyn@rses.org.

  • March's direct mail piece features two promotional pieces bundled together. The first piece highlights the R/AC and Heating Training Courses at the new reduced prices. The second piece provides additional information on the training materials that have been reduced in price and it also features several new HVACR industry products that have been added to computer-based training, merchandise, and certification preparation and reference materials.

  • Earn the most for your dues dollars by providing RSES with an e-mail address so we are able to keep you up-to-date with information that would otherwise take weeks to deliver in print.

Individuals may provide his/her e-mail address in one of two methods, either by completing the business reply card that appears in every other issue of RSES Journal, or online by logging into the Members Login section and selecting "E-mail Update" under the Chapter name in the navigation bar.

Products

  • RSES has reduced the prices on many of its training courses. Those training courses affected by the new pricing structure include the RSES training series Refrigeration/Air Conditioning, Electricity, Controls, Heating, Heat Pump, RSES Technical Institute Training Manuals, and the RSES Technical Institute HVACR Training Manuals Interactive CD-ROM Edition.

The adjustment in pricing was implemented to keep RSES educational materials competitive in the marketplace. The lower prices are in effect for members, corporate members and nonmembers. In addition to the lower-priced training courses, RSES now offers special rates to schools with HVACR trade programs. The RSES online store has been updated to reflect the new pricing structure.

Merchandise displaying the old RSES logo is still available, while quantities last, and can be found only on the RSES Web site at www.rses.org - Online Store.

RSES Journal

  • Remember, chapter minutes cannot appear in the RSES Journal unless they are sent in. The best way is for the chapter secretary or another officer to submit them via the RSES website. To do so, that person must be a chapter-authorized web officer. You can do this by going to www.rses.org and click on the Become A Web Officer link. Fill out the brief form on the screen. Once approved as a web officer, go to www.rses.org and click on the Member Log-in link to log onto the Online Community. Then, click on the Chapter Officer Link and then click on Meeting Minutes. Fill out the form and submit it.

Chapter program minutes also can be e-mailed to RSES headquarters to minutes@rses.org; faxed at 847-297-5038 and marked to the attention of Mary Rademacher; or sent regular mail to Mary Rademacher, RSES, 1666 Rand Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60016.

Membership

  • RSES signed up 141 new members in February 2007. 33 came through chapters, 85 joined directly through International (60 online!), and 23 are student members.

  • There are 15,270 current members (counting the three-month grace period).

  • The majority of our new members who expire in June will receive their first notice for dues renewal in April 2007.

  • The majority of our new members who expire in June will receive their first notice for dues renewal in April 2007.

Results of these elections will be announced prior to the 2007 Annual Conference.
