MESSAGE FROM RSES REGION 11 DIRECTOR

BRUCE KAMPERSCHROER, CM

My wife, Irma, and I bring spring greetings to all members and your spouses on behalf of the International staff at RSES. We are looking forward to visiting with each of you during our stay in Fargo. The Red River Chapter hosts have been working very hard and have fun and interesting activities arranged, as well as a dynamic educational agenda. I encourage as many that are able to attend, to please do so. If you cannot, please let them know that their hard work and efforts are very much appreciated. The Red River Chapter also deserves some special recognition for their achievements during this last year:

  • Three of their members received awards at the International awards banquet last year in Nashville. Make sure to offer your congratulations to Ivan Maas, CMS, David Olson, CMS and Joel Krause, CMS.
  • The Red River Chapter RSES is or is soon to be the largest chapter in the Upper Midwest Regional Association.
  • A very successful and highly attended Kellow Seminar.

None of these things happen by accident, it takes participation, hard work and commitment from more than just a couple members. It also takes quality educational programs and training at the chapter levels to keep existing members interested and to bring in new members. Fargo, again “Congratulations” and keep up the good work and we hope you can share with the rest of us that which has been working so successfully for you.

This year we also have the honor to have our International EVP Robb Isaacs and his wife, Carol, present. Robb has had a very good year in that many of the projects he has been working on over the last few years are starting to meld and become a reality. I will leave such for Robb to inform us during his visit and I know he is excited to do so. If you have not yet seen the new blue book/sales catalog ask your chapter officers about it. It is very well put together – and I know you will be impressed. It is another fine example of the forward strides and progress the society is making.

I have been busy working with the board of directors, with our local chapter as well as interacting with the office staff throughout the year. The staff in Chicago work extremely hard on our behalf let them know any chance you get that they are appreciated. One of the committees I serve on is bylaws and just want to give everyone a heads up that we are presenting some very significant changes this year so please review these changes carefully and we encourage your support of them. In a nutshell, we are presenting a change on how we elect our regional directors. Every member will be entitled to vote by ballot. We also feel that by using a direct ballot system, we will be encouraging member participation, give the members back a feeling of ownership and not to mention saving the society significant amounts of money over time by eliminating caucus’s and related room expenses at the International Conferences. I will present a copy of the proposed changes at the conference.

Nomination award forms have now been distributed to all the chapters, please take the time to nominate someone from all our chapters!! (I know that Fargo is not the only chapter who has hard working and deserving people). As always, I am readily available, so please call if I can be of assistance. See you in Fargo.

MESSAGE FROM RSES REGION 16 DIRECTOR

BRIAN BAKER, CMS

Are you planning on attending the RSES Canada Annual Business meeting to be held in Toronto in conjunction with the CMX show March 25-27th? This historic event of hosting our Business meeting with the show is one that all members should embrace. It’s a new and exciting opportunity for RSES to work with the entire HVACR Industry. Spring is always a busy time for RSES Chapters and Regions throughout the Society with many educational conferences scheduled. This year it began for me with my travel to the International winter Board of Directors meeting in Metairie, LA which was held in conjunction with the (SWRA) Southwest Regional Association conference. What a great opportunity to meet with members & listen. Next, I am off to Toronto and the RSES Canada Annual Business meeting in Toronto March 25, 2004, (UMRA) Upper Mid-West Regional Association conference April 15-18 in Fargo, ND and then off to the (EKA) Empire Keystone Association conference April 21-25th in Albany, NY. Part of my extensive travel this year is due to the International conference being held in Calgary September 30, 2004. The President approved travel to attend the RSES Canada Conference all other travel will be on my own but it is essential that we get the message out about Calgary and what a great conference it will be. Please make your plans to attend the committee is doing everything in their power to make this an event that you do not want to miss. I would like to see the seats for Region 16 and 17 full of delegates and attendees at the business meeting. Sign up today! Visit www.rses.org for more information. Calgary Chapter is very busy with education courses and exams; Edmonton is meeting and very active, as well they just signed up for a twelve-month subscription to Director Roth, CM’s Newsletter service. Way to go! These are great and affordable at $125.00/12-issues, $10.00 for the CD and $5.00 shipping (US funds). Winnipeg Chapter also signed up and Director Roth, CM and I have struck an agreement to assist the Saskatchewan Chapters with one as well in an effort to get more information to the membership there. I would be remiss if I did not personally thank Tim in Edmonton for his exceptional minutes dedication to get them in on time. Thanks Tim. Director Roth, CM has me very busy with the Chapter Chitchat newsletter that comes to the officers of the Chapters in all of RSES once a month. The response and feedback has been fantastic and we are so pleased that you all enjoy them. Make certain that we get our delegates, Alternates and Proxies in to carry votes, and get those award nominations into RSES Canada and International. DO NOT wait until the last minute or rely on someone to nominate a member. Go to the website and download the applications and send in a name or two. Last year was not good with only 25 members being nominated. Some awards were not even given because no one was nominated. We cannot allow this to happen again. If there is anything that I can do for you as Chapter or member please do not hesitate to ask. In closing I will ask the same question as last month… “If you were the President of RSES what are the first three items or issues that you would make a priority?” Look forward to your responses custom@customvac.mb.ca

CHAPTER REPORTS

Twin Cities Chapter #220

St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN

Greetings from the Twin Cities Chapter:

At long last the economy seems to be picking up, which is certainly good news for our industry. It certainly seems to be easier to gain new members and retain the old members when the economy is expanding. Speaking of new membership, our Twin Cities Chapter and the Red River Chapter of Fargo are running neck to neck for the honor of having the largest membership in Region 11.

Last spring we brought Glenn Hannigan to town to present our annual Gopher State Seminar. Needless to say, Glenn did his usual excellent job.

We are in the second year of the RSES Electrical Course and all ten students are doing well.

Congratulations to Barry Wold, CM our Twin Cities Chapter “Member of the Year.”

See you all in Fargo, ND at the UMRA. We invite you to visit our website at www.rsestc.org. Ed Grieman, CM, Secretary
